I’m so happy to share a behind-the-scenes look at how my Neverland story map came to life!
It began with a well-loved copy of Peter Pan’s tale, a journal to note all the places I visited within the story, and maybe a sprinkle of fairy dust. ✨

Here’s what went into the design:
🌿 A layout inspired by children’s imagination and timeless adventures.
🖌️ Watercolors inspired by emerald jungles, golden sands, and endless twilight skies.
🏝️ Details like Mermaid Lagoon, the Jolly Roger, and the Lost Boys’ hideout.
After jotting down the people and places I meet in the story, I begin to work from my imagination. I start at the Darlings’ house in London and make my way down the map to Pirate’s Cove.
🖊️ Next, I use my architectural pen to refine my sketch. This pen is waterproof and creates lines for me to paint in later. Kind of like a watercolor coloring sheet!
🎨 Now the painting begins! I spend a lot of time getting the colors right. When I say "right," I really just mean the way that I imagine the story. I choose colors that feel like something only children (and those who never forget how) can see.
🖌️ Let's paint! This part takes about two days. I let part of it dry, and I always like to study my painting on day two to see it with fresh eyes. I like to go in with new layers of paint to deepen hues and darken shadows to add dimension to Peter Pan’s Neverland.
🌙 Now that my painting is done, you’ll probably find me daydreaming in the hammock, waiting for the sound of distant bells, perhaps Tinker Bell herself. Painting a story like this one is hard work, but so rewarding!
