Let’s wander a while through the Hundred Acre Wood…
I’m so happy to share a behind-the-scenes look at how my Winnie the Pooh story map came to life. This one felt like coming home—quiet paths, gentle friends, and the kind of magic found in ordinary days.
Like all my maps, it began with a pencil sketch, a well-worn book, and a cup of something warm.

Here’s what went into the design:
🌲 A layout inspired by the original stories
🍯 Watercolors drawn from forest walks, golden afternoons, and honey jars
🎈 Hidden details like Roo’s Sandy Pit, Piglet’s house, and Eeyore’s “gloomy place”
I began my venture into Pooh’s woods with a quick sketch of some of my favorite places to visit. Pooh Bear’s house and his “thoughtful spot,” Tigger’s treehouse and bouncing tire-swing, and even Christopher Robin’s quaint, quiet neck of the woods.
Then, I begin to work from my imagination. I render winding paths that climb up and down the woods, connecting Pooh’s friends like an intricate root system. I imagine stones and rocks, arched cobblestone bridges, swampy ditches, and the beehives that supply endless Pooh honey.
🖊️ Next, I use my architecture pen to refine my sketch. This pen is waterproof and creates beautiful lines for me to paint in later. Kind of like a watercolor coloring sheet!
🎨 Now the painting begins! I spend a lot of time getting the colors right. When I say "right" I really just mean the way that I imagine the story. To me, Pooh’s Hundred Acre Wood feels warm and safe, so I choose colors that reflect that.
🖌️ Let's paint! This part takes about two days. I let part of it dry, and I always like to study my painting on day two to see it with fresh eyes. I like to go in with new layers of paint to deepen hues and darken shadows in order to add dimension to Pooh’s world.
In a world that loves to celebrate independence and individualism, Pooh’s Hundred Acre Wood is a good reminder that simple, human connection is beautiful and worth making time for.
🍯 Now that my painting is done, you can find me in a cozy corner sipping on a honey-filled beverage! Painting a story like this one is hard work, but it’s incredible rewarding. Stories connect us and remind us that we’re not all that different.
