Painting Pride and Prejudice
A Jane Austen Favorite Reimagined as Art
I wanted to give you a special behind-the-scenes look at how my Pride and Prejudice story map came to life.
Inspired by Jane Austen’s beloved novel, this piece began—as all my maps do—with a sketch, a stack of dog-eared pages, and a good cup of coffee.

This Story map was inspired by Jane Austen's incredibly popular novel.
It's so popular that Bridget Jones Diary is based off of her writings. Have you seen the fourth movie–Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy? I think it's as good as the first!
Step into the world of Longbourn, Meryton, and Pemberley with me…
👂🏼 First things first. I begin by listening to the full length book on Audible. This is such a treat because I can drive, garden, relax on the porch while actually "working"! I like to keep a copy of the book nearby to look up correct spellings.
This version below is narrated by Rosamund Pike who has such a beautiful voice!
🖋️ Next I scribble character list and landmark notes in my sketchbook making sure to include all possible details.
✏️ Then I begin to sketch from imagination and photos of English gardens and countryside strolls.
🖋️ After my sketch is just how I like it, I trace over it with an architectural pen.
🎨 Now its time to test color for Elizabeth & Darcy’s iconic moments. I spend a lot of time getting colors right. When I say "right" I really just mean the way that I imagine the story.
🖌️ Let's paint! This part takes about two days. I let part of it dry and I always like to study my painting on day two to see it with fresh eyes.
